Once you have
mastered the basics, you may want to use some of the more advanced
features of Type Accents.
Capital/Uppercase Letters
There are a few ways to type capital letters with Type Accents:
- Click the "ABC" button on the character selection screen.
- Press the Shift or Caps Lock key when on character selection screen
- Or, if you prefer you can get straight to the capital letters by pressing
Trigger Key (normally the right hand Alt key) + Shift + letter. This will
make the character selection screen will start in capital letters mode
- Have CAPS LOCK on when pressing Trigger Key (normally the right hand Alt key) +
Letter will also start the character selection screen in capital letters mode
Something Else
On the character selection screens you will see a "Something Else" icon.
This instantly takes you to the All Characters screen so that you can type a
character that doesn't appear on the selection screen. Any character you
type this way will then appear on the character selection screen so that you can
type it quickly in the future.
Enter characters Alt-Tab style
You may know that you can switch between open programs by pressing and holding
the left Alt key and repeatedly pressing Tab. You can also use Type Accents in a
similar way:
- Press and hold the Trigger Key (normally the right hand Alt key)
- Press the letter key (e.g. e for é)
- Let go of the letter key, but keep holding the Trigger Key.
- Then tap the letter key repeatedly (e.g. e) while still holding down Trigger Key
- When the character you want is selected let go of both keys and that character
is inserted!
This may sound a little complicated, but once you get the hang of it is actually really simple
as it lets you type an accented letter using only two keys. This method is not for everyone,
so you can still type accents the normal way if you prefer.
